If you’ve seen the 2011 animated movie Rio, then you’ll recognise these guys: Spix’s macaws.
They’re found in Brazil and, just like in the film, they’re thought possibly to be extinct in the wild, as they rely on Caraibeira trees for nesting in - which are only found in a very restricted area of north-east Brazil, principally in the state of Bahia.
They make a lot of friends on their Disney-esque journey, and I’ll be going through those species, too!
